Last month, Dunbar’s Director of Recruitment/Employee Relations Lynne Cassell and Regional HR Manager Mary Kenney attended the Aon Salute to America’s Wounded Warriors event. Dunbar was one of a select group of companies invited to attend the event, which was held on March 21 in Washington D.C. It was designed to raise awareness for the growing challenge many veterans face as they search for jobs that complement their unique skill set. The event’s goal was to connect veterans and local organizations with employment opportunities.
According to Lynne, the event was a huge success. Unlike traditional job fairs, the Wounded Warrior event was formatted similar to speed dating. Veterans were seated across from potential employers, who moved on to interview another veteran ever five minutes.
“The format worked really well and we liked it better than the usual career fair setup,” says Lynne, who attends numerous job fairs at military bases across the country. “We were humbled by the young men and women we met who have sacrificed much and served our country so well. These are well-trained individuals and they have experience that translates very well to civilian jobs.”
A huge percentage of Dunbar employees are veterans.
