Friday, March 30th, 2012

Dunbar has been safeguarding your valuables since 1923 through innovative security solutions and a family tradition of excellence that is second to none.

The Dunbar Timeline

1923: The tradition begins as George W. Dunbar co-founds Mercer and Dunbar, New England’s first armored car company.

1956: James L. Dunbar establishes Federal Armored Express, which evolved into the nation’s largest independent armored transportation company.

1972: Dunbar charters the Independent Armored Car Operators Association (IACOA).

1980: Kevin R. Dunbar becomes the third generation of Dunbar’s to join the family business.

1987: Dunbar BankPak, now known as Dunbar Security Products, is established, providing businesses with security and banking products like void-sealed cash security containers, which quickly became an industry standard.

1988: Dunbar introduces its ATM Cash Management Services – providing institutions with integrated ATM services, optimization of ATM cash loads, reduced vault inventories, detailed reporting, and much more.

1991: Dunbar takes to the skies with Dunbar Global Logisitics, which quickly evolves into one of the nation’s largest armored air courier services.

1996: The six operating companies – Federal Armored Express, Cash Vault Services, Loughlin Guard Services, EZ-Audit BankPak, and Alarm Systems – are all united under the Dunbar name.

Counterfeit Detection Tips for Businesses and their Employees

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

As a business owner, counterfeiting is a very real problem. Not only do you need to be able to know the difference between real and counterfeit U.S. currency, but your employees must have a thorough understanding as well.

Here are some simple tips to help in recognizing counterfeits before they enter your cash register.

Counterfeit Detection

  1. Feel: Counterfeit bills will feel different than real U.S. currency. Counterfeit bills are typically smooth with no raised ink.
  2. Color: If it feels suspicious, compare it to another bill. In a genuine bill, the paper is very high quality rag paper with small red and blue threads throughout. Counterfeit bills may have red and blue lines that are drawn to imitate the fibers. Also, the color may be faded because counterfeits lose their color easily.
  3. Face: The face should be very life-like with distinct lines, causing the image to almost pop off the background. In counterfeit bills, the lines tend to be blurred and may even blend into the background.
  4. Seal: The saw tooth points should be sharp and evenly spaced. In most counterfeits, the saw tooth points are broken, blunt, or uneven.
  5. Serial Numbers: The serial numbers should be clear and evenly spaced. Plus, on Federal Reserve Notes, the prefix letter agrees with the District letter in the seal.
  6. Border: The scrollwork should be sharp and unbroken, with fine crisscrossing lines. In most counterfeit bills, these lines are often blurred or broken.

What to do if you find a counterfeit bill

•     Write your name and the date on it so you can find it later and set it aside.

•     If you can remember where or from who you got the bill record this information.

•     Notify the Secret Service Office or police department as soon as possible.

The Treasury Department will remove the bill from circulation and later use it as evidence for the prosecution of the counterfeiter.

Friday, March 16th, 2012

As America’s brave service men and women return home from active duty, many are faced with the challenge of finding appropriate employment opportunities that complement their unique skillset.

It is the goal of The Aon Salute to America’s Wounded Warriors event, scheduled to be held on March 21st in Washington D.C., to raise awareness of this growing challenge and connect disabled veterans with local firms that have employment opportunities. As part of this event, Aon CEO, Greg Case, and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Richard B. Myers, will be hosting a networking session in honor of these veterans.

Each year, Dunbar recruits at various military bases across the country, participating in their job fairs. In fact, a huge percentage of Dunbar employees are veterans. They’re disciplined, well-trained, and professional – all in all, skills that translate well in our industry.

Dunbar’s Director of Recruitment/Employee Relations, Lynne Cassell, and Regional HR Manager of Springfield, Mary Kenney, will be attending the Wounded Warriors event on March 21st. If you have any questions, feel free to stop by and meet Lynne and Mary.
